The UK has flaws but also has amazing opportunities…

Some calls and forums this week really opened my eyes as to how different people’s experiences with Glioblastoma are….
…the UK variance from hospital to hospital and from consultant to consultant seems so extreme as to how patients feel.
I know that we are all different, type of glioblastoma, location, methylated, unmethylated etc which makes it even harder. Combine this as well with what works one of us may not work for another despite all other factors seeming to be the same.
I have been very lucky with who my team has been (Nurses, Oncologists, Neurusurgeons etc). But others have not felt the connection with their providers or unfortunately don't live near those hospitals that have dedicated support.
When you are going through these concerns and not getting the support you need, I think these forums as well as support groups such as brainstrust and thebraintumourcharity are key. People then at least don’t feel alone when we and our careers are at our most fragile.
Feeling secure and confident with who you deal with is key. If this is not the case, hopefully people can give you a boost (professionally or as a fellow person).
There are no stupid questions….. Remember people's experiences and thoughts are very much their own. These may not be wanted or suited to you, but if it helps build confidence and gives exposure to other options available, then I hope it works for you.
